Government and diplomatic tenancies

Canberra has more moves tied to postings, transfers and diplomatic tenancies than anywhere else in the country. Those come with requirements a normal residential move does not: access approvals arranged in advance, crew details supplied before the day, escorted access in some buildings, and occasionally restrictions on who may enter at all. None of it is difficult, but all of it takes lead time. If your move involves a secure site or a diplomatic property, tell us at the enquiry rather than the week before.

Posting dates are fixed, so plan backwards

A posting or transfer date generally will not move to suit a removalist. That makes Canberra a city where booking early genuinely matters, particularly around the end of the financial year and the January posting cycle, when demand concentrates into a few weeks. Work backwards from the date you must be out and give yourself margin at the front.

The Sydney corridor

Canberra sits roughly three hours from Sydney by road, which makes it the shortest interstate corridor we run and the most flexible for scheduling. That is a fact about the drive, not a delivery promise - your delivery window still comes with the quote and is still an estimate. But it does mean more options on dates than a long-haul corridor allows.

Apartment complexes in the newer town centres

Belconnen, Gungahlin, Braddon and the newer parts of Woden and Molonglo have a lot of apartment stock built to a similar pattern: a booked service lift, a loading bay that must be reserved, and building management rules about padding and move-in hours. Some restrict moves to weekdays. Book the lift and the bay before you commit to a date, because they are the constraint everything else fits around.

Winter frost and the start of the day

Canberra winters are genuinely cold, with heavy frost and fog that lingers into the morning. Driveways and paths ice up, ramps get slippery, and a crew carrying a wardrobe down a frosted path is a real risk rather than a theoretical one. In winter a slightly later start is often the safer and faster choice, which is the opposite of the advice for Brisbane, and worth planning for rather than pushing through.

My building requires security clearance for access. Can you handle that?

How far ahead should I book around a posting date?
Earlier than you think, especially around the January posting cycle and the end of the financial year, when a lot of Canberra moves land in the same few weeks. A posting date will not move for a removalist, so give yourself margin.
How long does a move to Sydney take?
Canberra is around three hours from Sydney by road, which makes it our most flexible corridor for scheduling. That said, we give you an estimated delivery window with your quote rather than a guaranteed date - the drive time and the delivery window are not the same thing.
Should we start later in winter?
Often, yes. Heavy frost and morning fog make paths and ramps genuinely slippery, and a delayed start is usually safer and no slower overall than working around ice. We will suggest a start time based on the forecast rather than the calendar.
