Heritage homes and the doorways they came with

Adelaide has a lot of well-kept heritage housing - bluestone villas, cottages and semi-detached terraces with original doorways, hallways and staircases. They are lovely and they are narrow. Original door frames are often noticeably tighter than modern ones, and heritage listings can restrict what you are allowed to remove to get something through. Measure the front door, the hallway and the tightest turn before the day, and send us photos of anything borderline.

Driveways that were not designed for a pantechnicon

Long single-width driveways with a gate at the street, mature trees overhanging, and no room to turn are common across the older suburbs. A big truck may not be able to get in at all, and reversing out a hundred metres past a neighbour's car is not a plan. Sometimes the answer is a smaller vehicle and a shuttle, which is fine if it is priced in and disastrous if it is discovered on the day.

The Adelaide Hills

Moves into and out of the Hills bring steep, winding roads, tight bends and properties with steep driveways or long unsealed access. Weight matters on that terrain in a way it does not on the plains, and wet weather makes an unsealed drive a genuine question rather than an inconvenience. If either address is in the Hills, tell us about the driveway surface and gradient - it changes the vehicle we send.

The Melbourne corridor

Adelaide to Melbourne is one of the shorter interstate runs in the country, and it is the corridor most Adelaide interstate moves use. It also makes Adelaide a natural connection point for east-west work coming off the Nullarbor. Practically, it means more scheduling flexibility on that route than on the long hauls.

Regional and wine country moves

Will my furniture fit through a heritage doorway?
Not always, and it is much better to know in advance. Original frames are often tighter than modern ones and heritage restrictions can limit what you may remove to get something through. Measure the narrowest point and send photos - there are usually options, but they need planning.
My driveway is long and narrow. Can a truck get in?
Maybe not, and reversing out is not a safe plan. Where access is tight we may use a smaller vehicle and shuttle to the truck. That is a normal solution, but it needs to be in the quote rather than discovered on the day, so send a photo of the driveway and gate.
Is a move into the Adelaide Hills different?
Yes. Steep winding roads, tight bends and often a steep or unsealed driveway all affect which vehicle we can send, and wet weather makes unsealed access a real consideration. Tell us the driveway surface and how steep it is when you enquire.
